Before photographing her, Burton sketches her portrait, capturing Monica in front of the stone ogre inscribed ‘ogni pensiero vola’ — a symbol of reflection and self-awareness. An atmosphere both surreal and deeply Italian, inspired by Mario Bava’s cinema, celebrates the most beautiful marvel: Monica. Photographed and illustrated by Tim Burton, styled by Colleen Atwood, with hair by John Nollet, makeup by Letizia Carnevale and editorial direction by Francesca Ragazzi.
